ALCHEMY
- To kiss you is to kindle flame and pur-
- ify the elixir which we taste in vain
- unless wholeheartedly. I drink again
- and yet again, eager to abjure
- my former drossy self: candescent joy
- floods each cell, flares through every vein
- and finally intoxicates the brain.
- I feel myself changing from dull alloy
- to singing gold whose captured sunlight glows:
- sate me with kisses while I metamorphose
- melting, refining, malleable alone
- in the fire of your embrace. Now love, hold
- me close against you: let passion mould
-
- me to the pattern of you flesh and bone.
