AN ALLITERATIVE NURSERY TALE
FOR GROWN-UPS
- Jack and Jill joyfully journeyed together
- up Apple Orchard Hill, for at the top
- was a well of icy water where wishes were granted.
- Arrived, they revolved the rusty rattling handle
- and, breathless, bailed a brimming bucketful.
- He eagerly, hopefully, offered her a draught.
- The lustrous liquid lapped her lips, and then
- the tip of her tongue tested, tasted: she drank;
- and after offered him two apples ripe,
- skin smooth as silk, so sweet to taste that he
- tenderly touched and took;
- these gifts given, agree
- both to abandon the book
- and follow their fancy free.
