BABY IN THE BATH

• Like a chameleon, she flushes
• vermilion: her whole body blushes.

• Mauve and puce
• suffuse her chin
• and the taut skin
• from mouth to nose;
• chalk white
• outlines her lips
• and highlights star-spread fingertips;
• she clenches her magenta toes.

• With plaintive throbbing cat-like yell
• she pulls her pupils parallel
• to beam a desperate SOS:
• “Beleaguered baby in distress.
• Heave to. A rescue.
• Outraged diva demands redress”.
