IN-FLIGHT REFUELLING
- Slender-bodied damsel lies
- in sun at waters edge, dreaming:
- across the pool dragon flies
- and spies her gleaming.
- He yaws, descends, his stiff wings whirr:
- she darts, an irridescent thread:
- he wheels and swoops and captures her
- and bites her dead.
- He grips, devours her on the wing,
- precise and skilful navigator,
- circling, banking, hovering
- ace aviator.
- Resplendent in lapis livery spun
- from luminous silk of noon sky,
- his latticed wings slivers of sun:
- emperor dragonfly.
